7th ASEAN Congress on Tropical Medicine and Parasitology (ACTMP)
The 7th ASEAN Congress on Tropical Medicine and Parasitology (ACTMP) was held on May 17-19, 2016 in Malang, Indonesia with the theme “Combating the Big Three of Infectious Diseases (AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria) and Increasing Awareness of the Neglected Tropical Diseases”.
The said congress was founded in 2004 to cater a program for scientists, researchers and public health practitioners from ASEAN countries where they could share their knowledge and researches to other scientists. It is also a place to build camaraderie and collaboration with different institutions, universities, and research laboratories. A number of topics were presented and discussed throughout the congress such as HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, bacterial, viral, and parasitic zoonoses, and vector-borne diseases.
Included in the program were the student oral and poster competition which were joined by participants from different ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines as well as those from India, Pakistan and China. One of the contestants for the student oral competition was a is one of the staffs of DNA Genes PH, Ma. Angelica A. Tujan. She was chosen to be an oral presenter along with five other students from Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The research she presented was about parasitology and neglected tropical diseases entitled, “Vector and Spatial Patterns of Angiostrongylus cantonensis in Selected Rice-farming Villages of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines”

The prestigious event successfully ended with approximately 150 participants consisting of students, research scientists, professors, and public health practitioners from different ASEAN countries as well as China, Japan, Pakistan, India, and Korea. New knowledge, discoveries, and experiences were shared by the invited speakers, participants and delegates. The congress happens every two years and in 2018, Vietnam was chosen as the host country for the upcoming 8th ACTMP.
